Blink of an eye

In the blink of an eye, she was gone!

Taken from the side of the road,

As she watched her father change the wheel.

In the blink of an eye, she was gone! He failed to see the van draw in,

And steal the child from under his nose.

In the blink of an eye, she was gone!

She had barely started high school,

And her infancy flew by, faster than a blinking eye.

In the blink of an eye, she was gone!

By comparison forensics were slow,

Nothing notable was noted from cameras on the side of the road.

In the blink of an eye, she was gone!

Whisked quickly away in a van,

And rapidly driven across the Mojave, crossing state after state.

In the blink of an eye, she was gone!

Stolen from her pram in the park,

A helpless baby noticed and taken by barren, coveting eyes.

In the blink of an eye, she was gone!

But her mother never stopped searching, Hiring a fearsome team, military in training and tracking.

In the blink of an eye, she was gone!

The false surrogates shifted her from place to place, Lying to schools and authorities and regularly changing her name.

In the blink of an eye, she was gone!

Returned to her parents true.

Confused, unstable.

They struggled with what was left of their baby daughter.

In the blink of an eye, she was gone!

Lost!

Having taken her own fragile life.

In the blink of an eye, she was gone, A soul torn by such hideous strife.
