Heights
Climbing higher heights, Aiming to go higher, And further.
First a wall for training, Followed by cliffs, And hills.
Then came mountains,
Ravines and caves, Adrenaline.
Each peak higher than the last,
Each challenge more treacherous, Each time the threat of danger increased.
Climbing higher heights, Leading the way, Complacent.
From glaciers to Everest, Canyons and stacks, Demanding.
Then came the ultimate; Uncharted, unknown, Unprepared.
Each rock less stable than the last,
Each foothold more treacherous,
Each movement, the threat of danger increased.
Climbing higher heights, Breeze blew her hair, Loosened.
From climbing-pick to pick, Her hair knotted tightly, Panicking.
Then came the suffering, Unable to move, Unprepared.
Each movement tightened the knot,
Each attempt to escape tore her scalp, Each tear forced fearful tears.
Struggling at higher heights, Scalp tearing from her head, Tightened.
From pulling to twisting, Each attempt hurt more, Suffering.
Each movement pulled her skin from her head, Each twist tore the scalp away and blinded with blood, Each fright triggered a foolish act.
The harness was released as she struggled,
Her scalp torn fully off,
She plummeted into the rocks below.
No longer climbing higher heights.
