Rattling

Rattling bones chime on the porch,

Catching in the desperately needed breeze.

My knees click; overworked, sore.

Battle-axe creaking on the wood, brow-beaten, By a sharp-tongued mean husband.

Ash protects the boundaries,

Sprinkled deliberately on overgrowth.

Sharp teeth hide in the shadows,

Colorful birds sing celebrating freedom, Warbling from my homely cage.

Chanting in ardent protest,

Brazenly struggling as a community.

Flocking together, flying,

One gaggle chirruping. Freedom exploited.

Daily labor underwhelms.

Rattling bones chime in my knees.

Birds feed hungrily; prey by the overgrowth.

Ash returns to the damp earth,

Teeth sprinkle through the shadows chirruping, Menacing my caged freedom.
