The Role of The Deep in Immortalis and Its Endless Dusk
Morrigan Deep, that shadowed expanse where the two suns hang perpetually on the horizon, defines the stage upon which the Immortalis perform their ceaseless appetites. Known simply as The Deep, this world is no mere backdrop to the tale of lust and blood; it is the crucible that forges the very nature of those who rule it. From its creation by Primus in the void, through the chaos of vampire and thesapien strife, to the eternal dusk imposed as Primus’s final rebuke to Lilith’s betrayal, The Deep embodies the imbalance that sustains the Immortalis.
Primus wrought The Deep from nothingness, a realm of sands, mountains, and forests, populated by souls given form as thesapiens or vampires. Yet consciousness bred conflict, the predators and prey locked in endless hunt. To quell the disorder, Primus raised Irkalla, Hell itself, a sixfold governance beneath the living world and above the void. The Deep, then, became a place of uneasy barter and feudal pacts, its kingdoms trading with each other and, when necessity demanded, with the circles below. This fragile equilibrium, ever on the brink, mirrors the fractured souls of the Immortalis who dominate it.
The eternal dusk marks the pivot. Lilith, swollen with ambition, sought to chain Primus and crown her son Theaten sovereign. Primus, foreseeing the treachery, redressed the scales: he sired Nicolas upon Boaca Baer, dispatched the boy to Irkalla’s demonic tutelage, and formed the Darkbadb to watch his heirs. His parting stroke dropped the suns to the horizon, bathing The Deep in perpetual twilight. Post Vesperum, the year 1536 finds this half-light as the constant condition, a reminder that creation bends to retribution. No dawn breaks; sensation persists in muted tones, sharpening the hungers of those who thrive in shadow.
The Deep’s role in Immortalis lore is thus foundational: it is the arena of their primal urges, the ledger of their sadisms. Theaten and Nicolas, split from one flesh yet bound by blood, gorge on its tributes, their Evros embodying the unchecked appetites The Deep cannot contain. Vampires hunt thesapiens; mobs retaliate; Irkalla claims the fallen. Yet the Immortalis stand apart, neither predator nor prey, their dual natures exploiting the world’s fractures. The endless dusk amplifies this: light offends, sensation lingers, and the horizon mocks resolution.
In Corax Asylum, Nicolas embodies The Deep’s essence most purely. His crypt-dungeons, mirror-haunted corridors, and sewage washrooms reflect the world’s inherent cruelty, refined to personal theatre. The Deep’s bartering persists in his trades with Irkalla, tributes exchanged for authority, souls redistributed. The eternal half-light suits his horological obsessions, clocks chiming discordantly in perpetual ambiguity. Here, as across Morrigan Deep, time does not progress; it merely endures, feeding the Immortalis hungers that define it.
The Deep endures, too, its endless dusk a testament to Primus’s design. Imbalance is not flaw but feature, sustaining the Immortalis through cycles of creation and consumption. Lilith’s cult crumbles in Neferaten sands; Electi rituals fail in Sapari shipwrecks; yet the world persists, its shadowed expanse the perfect vessel for those who gorge without end.
